Newtown’s Iconic Courthouse Hotel Sold by HTL Property

Leading agents Andrew Jolliffe, Dan Dragicevich and Sam Handy from national brokerage agency, HTL Property, are delighted to announce the sale of Newtown hospitality icon, The Courthouse Hotel.

Owned by highly regarded Investor, Brian Dooley SC, the hugely popular hotel has sold following a very active on-market campaign to hospitality giant, Solotel.

“The Courthouse is a traditional pub that embodies everything good about the hospitality industry, and the central role pubs play in communities across Australia” advised HTL Property Managing Director, Andrew Jolliffe.

The sale of the Courthouse follows successful sales by HTL Property in the past week, including the record sale of a Queensland Hotel in the form of The Tree Tops Tavern.

“In the past week, we’ve sold pubs in Whyalla (South Australia), the Gold Coast (Qld) and Sydney (NSW), reflecting an industry in high demand and amassing $2bn in YTD sales” Jolliffe added.

‘Whilst not impervious to external challenges, there are few asset classes with access to better revenue levers in challenging times than those enjoyed by pubs. Largely because they don’t rely upon one particular revenue stream over another; and also because they are, by comparison to other recreational pursuits for families such as travel, economically favourable” Jolliffe concluded.

Sales of traditional hotels in 2026 are following a frozen rope trend line which closely characterises the all time record volume of sales recorded in 2022.

“Following the three sales our company concluded last week, we have now launched sale campaigns for the Wattlegrove Hotel in Sydney’s South West, The Arthouse Hotel in the Sydney CBD, the White Hart Hotel in Horseham (VIC) and The Star Hotel in Milton on the picturesque NSW South Coast” advised HTL Property National Director, Dan Dragicevich.
